Jan Voges studied electrical engineering at Leibniz University Hannover with specialization on communications engineering. He received his Dipl.-Ing. degree from Leibniz University Hannover in 2015. After graduating he joined Institut für Informationsverarbeitung at Leibniz University Hannover where he currently works as a research assistant in the field of compression of DNA sequencing data towards his PhD. In the second half of 2018 he worked as a visiting researcher at the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he contributed to a project with the goal to automate and speed up the analysis of DNA sequencing data in clinical settings. He is an active contributor to the MPEG working groups of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29. He contributed over 40 input documents to the series of MPEG-G standards (ISO/IEC 23092), and he serves as co-editor of ISO/IEC 23092-2 and -5. His current research ranges from information theory over data compression, communications engineering, and machine learning to bioinformatics.
