Alexander Behrens was born in Bückeburg in 1980. He studied Electrical Engineering with a focus on Information Processing at the University of Hanover. His Studienarbeit (first student research project) was dealing with 'Implementation of a Gesture Recognition System based on Multi-scale Feature Detection and Particle Filtering' and received the VDE Hanover student award for the best student research project in electrical engineering in 2004. He was doing an internship at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories in Cambridge, MA, USA and was participating in a 3DTV multiview coding project. His diploma thesis was dealing with 'Optimization of an Image Processing Module for Moving Object Segmentation'. He received a honoring for his Dipl.-Ing. degree in 2006.

Since then he has been working as a research assistant toward a PhD degree at the 'Institut für Informationverarbeitung' at the University of Hanover. His research interests are image processing and interpretation of remote sensoring image data.
